Water Heater Sensor
Our project was to add a sensor so people will know when to replace their anode rod. Rust tends to form inside water heaters, rust forms when water hits metal and oxygen. Rust targets the weakest metal, in the water heater, its the anode rod. Once the rod has been eroded, it targets the barriers. We made a system which alerts customer to change their rod. When magnesium erodes to a certain point, the buzzer will make a loud sound. We also have a green light which indicates battery level, if the green light is on, the system is up and running. We also plan to add an app, which will send the customer a notification that their anode rod has stopped working.
Our project consists of a sensor to alert the customer. It uses a NE-555-P timer microcontroller along with a combination of resistors and wires to transfer currents throughout the board. In order to supply the buzzer with the compatible amount current and voltage, the probes touch the water. Our prototype was successful. We have added a power switch and a led light indication in order to make it safe for the user and to make sure that we are using the battery life properly. We put indicator lights so our client will be able to see if the system is off or on.
